What a yoga class at 21 Pilates ID looks like
Every yoga class runs 50 minutes with no more than eight people in the room. That size matters: the instructor can see everyone, offer a hands-off cue or a modification when you need one, and keep the room calm rather than crowded. A typical class moves through five parts:
- Arrival and breath — settling in, lengthening the exhale, letting the day go. About 5 minutes.
- Warm-up — gentle spinal movement, cat-cow, and simple sun salutations to warm the joints. About 10 minutes.
- Standing flow and balance — warriors, lunges, and balance poses linked with breath. About 20 minutes.
- Floor work — long-held stretches for the hips, hamstrings, and lower back. About 10 minutes.
- Relaxation — a quiet savasana before you head back out. About 5 minutes.
The pace is steady, not acrobatic. Nobody is asked to do a headstand. Every pose has an easier and a deeper version, so a complete beginner and a long-time practitioner can share the same class.
Who our yoga class is for
- Office workers around Rungkut Industri and SIER who sit all day and feel it in their hips, neck, and shoulders.
- Students and lecturers near ITS and UNAIR Kampus C who want an hour that isn't a screen.
- Pilates members who want to add flexibility and recovery to their strength work.
- Complete beginners — if you've never done yoga before, this is a gentle, unintimidating place to start.
- Anyone carrying stress who wants a reliable way to slow down once or twice a week.
What regular yoga does for your body
Yoga's strengths are well known, and they show up quickly when you practice consistently — once or twice a week for a couple of months:
- Flexibility — long-held poses gradually lengthen tight hamstrings, hip flexors, and chest muscles.
- Stress relief — slow breathing and quiet holds help downshift a busy nervous system.
- Balance — standing poses train the small stabilizing muscles in the feet, ankles, and hips.
- Better breathing — learning to breathe fully, not just into the top of the chest.
- Mobility for daily life — reaching, bending, and turning start to feel easier.
Yoga and Pilates: better together
Yoga and Pilates solve different problems. Yoga is unmatched for flexibility and calm; Pilates builds deep core strength and control. We wrote a full comparison in Pilates vs Yoga: Which One Is Right for You? — the short version is that they complement each other beautifully.
Now that both are under one roof in Rungkut, the pattern we recommend most is simple: one or two Pilates sessions a week (reformer or mat) for strength, plus one yoga class for flexibility and recovery.
